Scar Therapy

A scar is a mark on the skin after a wound or injury has healed. Unfortunately, you cannot get rid of a scar completely, but most scars will fade over time. This can take up to 2 years or more, but there are some things you can do to help a scar heal or improve how it looks. HYPPP Therapy is both clinically safe and effective in the treatment of facial and body scarring, with an average  healing period of 2 to 3 months for visible improvement in skin appearance and texture.

Childhood acne may lead to the formation of mild-to-severe facial scaring, after puberty. Scars can also arise following an injury to the skin, such as mechanical trauma or surgery. They also can form following a severe burn, regardless of whether the skin was left to heal passively or reconstructed through a plastic surgery procedure.   Scars can vary in appearance and can be many colours such as pink, red, purple, white, brown, skin-coloured or darker than the skin around them. They can also be itchy, painful or uncomfortable.

Types of scars and their appearance:

  • Fine-line scar: may be slightly raised to start, but usually flattens and fades over time without treatment

  • Atrophic scar: may be a deep, small hole in the skin that looks like a deep pore, or it can be a larger and slightly sunken mark; usually happens after acne or chickenpox

  • Keloid scar: usually raised, hard and smooth, it grows to be bigger than the original wound, and the area where the scar is may be uncomfortable or difficult to move; it does not usually flatten or fade without treatment

  • Hypertrophic scar: usually raised and firm, it does not grow to be bigger than the original wound; the area where the scar is may be uncomfortable or difficult to move; it usually fades and flattens over time

  • Contracture scar: feels tight and the area where the scar is may be difficult or painful to move; it usually happens after a burn

You cannot get rid of a scar, but most scars fade over time without any treatment.

If a scar is more severe or bothering you, your doctor may be able to recommend treatments or refer you to a specialist. The aim of treatment is to help improve any functional issues and how the scar looks.

Depending on the type of scar you have, treatments may include:

  • silicone dressings or gels

  • steroid injections or cream

  • cryotherapy (a treatment to freeze the scar)

  • laser therapy

  • skin camouflage (creams and powders you use to cover your scar)

Currently, there is limited availability of bioactive scar treatments, while most scar treatment products available provide lubrication to the scar making it appear softer and flatter. HYPPP Therapy is an advanced treatment for wounds and scars, that actively promotes skin remodelling through the stimulation of new blood vessel development and cell proliferation within the scar tissue. Clinical data shows that scars become significantly more elastic and appear more refined within 2-4 months under treatment with HYPPP Therapy, while facial scarring is improved through pore reduction and skin texture refinement.  The treatment is initiated by your physician, using a micro-needling treatment protocol, which will create microinjury into the scar tissue, in order to induce skin regeneration via the HYPPP growth factors, which are directly injected into scar tissue. The treatment is continued by patients at home, as a topical preparation that is applied to the scar daily. Two to four treatment cycles are usually required for visible results.
